Pick the radio per site, not per company. That is the whole answer, and the rest of this article is the evidence. LoRaWAN<\/a> and NB-IoT<\/a> both carry parking sensor data reliably. What differs is who owns the network, who collects the recurring fee, and which deployment pattern each one fits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The short answer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Choose LoRaWAN when you control the ground: a campus, a park and ride, a depot, or a city willing to run its own network. You install gateways once and pay no per-sensor cellular fee. Choose NB-IoT when your spaces are scattered across towns or regions where mounting your own gateways makes no sense: the carrier’s network is already there, and every sensor connects on its own SIM. How LoRaWAN parking connectivity works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LoRaWAN runs on unlicensed spectrum through gateways the customer owns. Sensors talk to your gateways (Class A, B, or C depending on how the devices are configured), and your gateways forward the data onward. Because the spectrum is unlicensed and the infrastructure is yours, there is no per-sensor cellular fee. Your costs are the gateways themselves and keeping them running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This model suits closed sites and cities that want their own network. NB-IoT rides licensed carrier networks. Each sensor carries a SIM and connects wherever the carrier has coverage, with no gateway on your side at all. Deutsche Telekom, for example, offers 10-year SIM bundles that match the service life of a long-battery sensor, so connectivity can be bought once alongside the hardware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No gateways means no site survey for mounting points, no power runs, and no network to maintain. That makes NB-IoT the natural fit for distributed sites: a few spaces here, a loading zone there, spread across a region.
