Why Truck Parking is Crucial
The European Commission’s directive on truck driver safety highlights the
importance of adequate parking
facilities. Truck drivers must comply with strict rest requirements, often needing to stop as their
driving hours approach regulatory limits. However, finding appropriate parking spaces for large trucks
remains a significant challenge, particularly in high-traffic transit regions like Poland, Netherlands,
France, Italy or the Czech Republic. This shortage of secure and accessible parking leads to unsafe
practices and increases the risk of non-compliance with safety regulations.
Road freight transport is a cornerstone of Europe's economy, facilitating the movement of goods across
borders and ensuring supply chain efficiency. In 2023, the European Union's road freight transport
reached over 13.2 billion tonnes, translating to approximately 1,857 billion tonne-kilometres.
