Bluetooth Parking Identification for Cities, Campuses and Commercial Sites

Know who is parked in each space, not just whether it is occupied.

Fleximodo turns every parking sensor into an identity check: Bluetooth links the bay to a digital permit or driver, enabling verification, enforcement and 1-click payment.

    What Bluetooth Parking Identification Means

Bluetooth parking identification adds a layer of identity to occupancy data. When a vehicle parks over a Fleximodo IoT sensor, the sensor wakes a Bluetooth (BLE) channel and exchanges a signal with a digital permit in the driver's phone or a physical IoT Permit Card in the car. The sensor then knows not only that the space is occupied, but which permit or driver is using it, and streams that to the operator. It is built for cities, disabled-bay enforcement, offices, residential sites and fleets.

    Parking systems as silos

Why "Occupied or Free" Is Not Enough

A standard parking sensor reports a binary state: occupied or free. It cannot tell you whether the car in a reserved, disabled or resident bay has the right to be there. These are the problems Bluetooth parking identification solves:

Reserved Bays Taken by the Wrong Car

Offices and residential sites lose their guaranteed spaces to vehicles that never had a permit, and operators find out too late.

Disabled Bays Abused, with No Way to Enforce

A large share of accessible spaces is occupied without a valid permit, and cities have no scalable, automated way to verify entitlement in real time.

    Permits That Do Not Scale

Handing a physical card to every resident or disabled driver is slow and hard to distribute across a whole city.

Payment That Depends on the Driver Remembering

Manual "start parking" steps in an app cause missed and disputed payments, hurting compliance.

Occupancy That Does Not Match Reality

Without knowing who parked where, the digital map of a car park drifts away from what is actually happening on the ground.

    What Bluetooth Parking Identification Includes

The service is a software layer on top of Fleximodo occupancy sensors. It combines sensor-initiated Bluetooth, digital permits and app integration, delivered as one package:

Sensor wakes up its Bluetooth channel

    BLE Wake-up on the Sensor

The in-ground sensor detects a vehicle, then activates its Bluetooth channel only for that event, so identification adds no measurable drain to the sensor battery.

    How Bluetooth Parking Identification Works

Identification runs automatically in five steps and, for the driver, comes down to a single tap. A pilot can run on existing sensors within days of a firmware update.

    Arrival and Parking

The driver parks over a Fleximodo in-ground sensor. The sensor detects the vehicle through its magnetic and radar field, exactly as it does for normal occupancy detection.

    Arrival and parking

    Bluetooth Wake-up

On detecting the vehicle, the sensor activates BLE advertising and emits a signal that wakes the app in the driver's phone, even when the app is closed and running in the background. With the IoT Permit Card, the card broadcasts its ID and the sensor reads it directly.

    Bluetooth wake-up

    Driver Verification

The app confirms the signal belongs to a driver who has parked, not a pedestrian passing by, using signal dwell-time and phone activity signals. This keeps identification accurate in busy areas.

    Driver verification

    One-Click Confirmation

The driver confirms the session in a single tap, or the permit is verified automatically over the Bluetooth handshake. Depending on the use case this starts payment, validates a disabled or resident permit, or logs the vehicle to its reserved bay.

    One-click confirmation

    Exit and Sync

The sensor detects departure and closes the session, freeing the space. Where there is no live connection, such as an underground garage, the information syncs as soon as the phone regains signal, for example on leaving the garage.

Digital Permit or IoT Permit Card: Two Ways to Identify

Bluetooth identification works with a digital permit in the phone or a physical IoT Permit Card in the vehicle. The card was the original approach; the app version moves the same permit into the phone, which makes it far easier to scale across a city or a large site.

Who Bluetooth Parking Identification Is For

Identification is valuable wherever "who is parked here" matters as much as "is this bay free": cities, disabled-bay programmes, offices, residential sites and fleets.

    What Results to Expect

Bluetooth identification is designed to turn occupancy data into enforceable rules and reliable payment. Exact results depend on site type and how it is configured:

    • Enforceable Accessible Parking

Automatic, real-time verification of disabled permits, replacing random manual checks.

    • Higher Payment Compliance

1-click confirmation removes the main reason drivers skip paying.

    • Reserved Bays Protected

Misuse of assigned office and residential spaces is flagged the moment it happens.

    • Permits That Scale

Digital permits are issued and revoked remotely, so coverage can grow from a pilot to a whole city without new hardware.

    • A Digital Twin That Matches Reality

Layering identity on occupancy keeps the digital picture of the car park one-to-one with the ground.
