Maastricht evaluation: NB-IoT, LoRaWAN and permit card in one kit

Xerovex, a technology company in Maastricht, is evaluating three Fleximodo product lines in a single compact kit: one NB-IoT sensor, one LoRaWAN sensor and one permit card. The aim is to see the full detection chain working, from bay to dashboard, on both networks and with permit checks, before choosing what to use on a real site. This page is for integrators planning a similar test.

System architecture

  1. Sensors. One IoT Parking Sensor Standard (NB-IoT, surface-mounted) and one IoT Parking Sensor Mini (LoRaWAN, exterior). Both combine a magnetometer with radar, the setup behind Fleximodo's 99.96% detection accuracy.
  2. Credential. One IoT Permit Card, carried in the test vehicle, so the system can tell an authorised car from an unauthorised one.
  3. Networks. The Standard reports over NB-IoT on the mobile network. The Mini reports over LoRaWAN through a gateway.
  4. Platform. Fleximodo's DOTA backend handles monitoring and over-the-air firmware updates, and the results appear in CityPortal, the same dashboard used in production.

What was deployed

Item Detail
Sensor 1 1 × IoT Parking Sensor Standard, NB-IoT, surface-mounted
Sensor 2 1 × IoT Parking Sensor Mini, LoRaWAN, exterior
Credential 1 × IoT Permit Card
Detection Magnetometer plus radar (both sensors)
Protection IP68, IK10 (Sensor Standard)
Backend DOTA monitoring and firmware updates
User interface CityPortal
Services Onboarding support during the evaluation

Integration notes

Compare like with like. Put both sensors in bays with similar traffic so differences come from the network and form factor, not the site.

Check LoRaWAN coverage first. The Mini needs a LoRaWAN gateway within range. Confirm whether the test uses an existing network or a gateway placed for the trial.

Test the permit logic, not just detection. Park with and without the card in the vehicle and check that CityPortal marks the bay correctly. This is the step that matters for permit enforcement in residential or staff zones.

Plan the data path. If the results will feed another system, test the Fleximodo API during the evaluation rather than after.
