CIVIC, an Irish smart city and municipal technology company, launched Fleximodo parking sensors in the Dublin area in October 2025. It is the first Fleximodo deployment in Ireland. It is also the first time the CityPortal parking software has run in Irish (Gaeilge), next to English, under CIVIC's own brand.
What problem did CIVIC need to solve?
CIVIC needed a parking system it could offer Irish public bodies as its own product, in both of Ireland's official languages.
Public services in Ireland are expected to work in Irish as well as English. A parking platform with public-facing navigation and violation reporting therefore needs an Irish interface, not just an English one. CIVIC also wanted the platform to carry its own branding, since it is the local company its clients deal with.
What was installed?
- IoT Parking Sensor Standard, NB-IoT, with the on-surface adaptor. The sensor mounts on top of the existing surface, so no core drilling is needed. It combines a magnetometer with radar, the setup behind Fleximodo's 99.96% detection accuracy.
- CityPortal, white-labelled. Navigation, occupancy monitoring, violation reporting and statistics, carrying CIVIC's branding.
- Irish language added to CityPortal. CIVIC supplied the translation and Fleximodo built it into the interface.
- DOTA backend for sensor monitoring and over-the-air firmware updates.
- Onboarding. Sensor mapping, parking lot and zone setup, parking and reservation rules, and user onboarding for CIVIC's team.
What does the city get from it?
The council or site operator gets live occupancy for each bay, in a tool its staff and the public can use in Irish or English.
- Bilingual public service. Drivers and staff can switch between Irish and English in the same portal.
- Enforcement support. Parking rules set during onboarding let CityPortal flag overstays and other violations, the basis for parking enforcement.
- Quick installation. On-surface mounting means bays can be equipped without digging up the road.
- A local brand. Staff and drivers see CIVIC, the company they deal with.
The Irish interface now exists in CityPortal. Other Irish municipal projects can use it without a new translation.
