Geosparc BV is a geospatial software company based in Heusden (Destelbergen), just outside Ghent. Its Parktrack platform turns sensor data into parking analytics for Belgian municipalities, and Fleximodo sensors supply the bay-level occupancy data underneath it.
What problem did Geosparc have?
Parktrack needed reliable, bay-by-bay occupancy data from sites that do not look alike. Some locations have good cellular coverage and no room for gateways. Others are closed sites where a private radio network makes more sense. Surfaces vary too, from asphalt that can be core-drilled to paving that cannot be cut.
Geosparc also had to keep a growing fleet up to date without sending technicians to every bay.
What was installed?
The project started with a pilot in 2023 and expanded in phases through 2025. The fleet now runs past 500 sensors.
- 2023: NB-IoT in-ground sensors. IoT Parking Sensor Standard units, core-drilled, reporting over public NB-IoT networks.
- 2024: LoRaWAN with trailer detection. New sensors moved to LoRaWAN on Geosparc's own gateways, running firmware version 19 (FW 19), which is tuned to detect trailers and caravans as well as cars.
- 2024: On-Surface Adaptors. Used where core-drilling is not possible. The adaptor changes only the mounting; detection stays the same.
- Late 2024: NB-IoT back in the mix. Geosparc added NB-IoT sensors again, so it can pick the radio per site. Fleximodo NB-IoT sensors can also run on a private APN, keeping traffic off the public internet.
- 2025: flush-mount sensors with DOTA. Flush-mount units sit level with the surface, a middle option between full in-ground and adaptor mounting. They came with DOTA (Delta Over-the-Air) firmware management through CityPortal.
Every sensor uses Fleximodo's dual detection, a magnetometer combined with radar, rated at 99.96% detection accuracy.
What does the city get from it?
Municipalities using Parktrack get live occupancy per bay, whichever radio or mounting a site needed. In practice, that lets Geosparc and its clients:
- choose NB-IoT or LoRaWAN site by site, instead of forcing one network everywhere
- report trailer and caravan occupancy separately from cars where FW 19 is installed
- equip paved or sensitive surfaces with adaptors or flush-mount units, without deep excavation
- update firmware remotely, since DOTA sends only the changed parts of the firmware rather than a full image
The data flows into Parktrack, so Geosparc keeps its own analytics and reporting on top. For teams planning similar mixed fleets, our integrations and API page covers how sensor data reaches third-party platforms.
